R.I.P. Lola Ely

Our Bautista clan’s matriarch, Elita Abel, passed away at 5:00AM of December 25, 2009. She was 96.

Yes, passed on early morning Christmas Day. She died in her sleep.

I felt saddened when Dad told me that. It was only two months ago we last visited her and brought some Red Ribbon pancit malabon.

Boy, was she a wonder! She didn’t use any walking aids like a cane or wheelchair, used no hearing aids, and she was easy to talk to and understand.

Better part is she completely understood who she spoke with. She had no sign of any senility or any of the sort that’s hit some elderly.

Went to her wake last night. One of our relatives said she gradually grew weaker in the last two months before she died.

Saw her in her casket and said a short prayer. She was one unique lady in her own right.

Rest in peace, Lola Ely. Your time is done, and it’s our turn to live as best as we can.
